Venezualan President Hugo Chavez has threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States and push the price of crude to $200 a barrel. He has been very active this year meeting with the leaders of Russia, China and Iran, gathering with him support for his anti-American sentiments. He has purchased submarines from Russia that can be easily retrofitted with the capability to launch missles.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has defiantly stood against the US and the UN continuing its development of nuclear technology. He has warned President Bush against trying to stop his country’s efforts to join the nuclear age. Islamic radicals see Ahmadinejad as an icon that has stood up to the Great Satan – America. They are looking to the day that the mushroom cloud hangs over the United States and Israel.
Oil prices and the threat of nuclear war seek to hold us hostage as a nation. America has become too dependent on other nations. Where we used to export and the attitude was to “Buy American” to strengthen our dollar, we now import and buy cheap merchandise that falls apart and is not manufactured with consumer safety in mind.
It is time for us to return to the America that we once were. We will do this by returning to the values that made our nation proud and strong. “In God we trust.” “One nation under God, indivisible . . .” 2 Chronicles 14:7 reads “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Let us return to God, secure our borders, and stop depending on other nations for what we can proudly do for ourselves.
